Since when was a single shop closure headline news?!

Just looked at the BBC’s headline news and the closure of a Homebase store was on the front page.

Now, while i have every sympathy with the people losing their jobs, this is hardly headline news?! Shops close all the time, and people lose their jobs! If the whole Homebase chain had gone down, then I could understand it, but this is a bit of a joke!

True, but “headline” news does tend to be bad, distressing or some scandal or other, so the lack of this is surely a good thing.

I’ve just realized I’ve come across meaning I don’t think people losing jobs is bad, I do…but I’m saying I’m relieved when I log onto BBC and there hasn’t been yet another car bomb – a rare thing.

I take your point… still, there must be something more worthwhile that that!
