Actually the problem with most sim games is that the end is very near the beginning. It is in fact "when you figure enough out to survive". In sim city that was always the point that you have enough money to build what you want and your taxes didn't make people run for their lives.
Once you got to that it was a matter of waiting and slowly improving.

I am hoping that Spore will not suffer from this, becuase as soon as you figure out a certain bit (in the many unique ways hopefully) you can progress to the next level...

There was a mention about high level missions to do in the last section of the game (where you have access to everything from before), so hopefully those objectives will be fun to achieve (I am thinking of some of the objectives in Black&White which were good fun to try and do)

You make a good point - i'm quite looking forward to it, however, i hope there is some kind of 'end' that you can reach. The trouble with the Sim games for me is that you can just go forever, and i like to have an end in sight...

To me Spore looks like the ultimate sim game. Not only does it have an incredible level of micro-management and incredible coding means that everything should have a really unique feel to it.
When you get further in the game they are saying you can play with all the earlier stuff, so you can always dabble a bit more in the parts you love.

I have yet to actually find out a lot about the game other than the video's I have seen. The video's are incredible but do not give much of an idea as to what the game will be like.
I think it could be genre-breaking: giving you a chance to mix genre's like never before.
Given Maxis' track record I think you just have to wait until it is released to know whether it will be good or not (certainly the procedural programming is ground breaking, and should produce some wonderful, if slightly unpreditctable, results)

Get C&C the first Decade - great set :D

In the words of 1up's coverage of e3 "Crysis - what's that? Another futuristic alien FPS. Coz we all need one of those..."
Or somethink like that!

I agree with you about HL2 tho..

> I think you’re also all forgetting the seminal
> Command and Conquer 3 on PC!

I'll probably buy that simply due to the good memories of the original C&C/RA games. The latter couple (RA2 and Generals) didn't do much for me, but I'm stupid enough to think that maybe they'll have improved it :-)

Admittedly I'm more swung by the the technology, but I'm thinking that CryTek's Crysis has to be played. IM(H)O 'Far Cry' was the best FPS of the last few years. I had an order of magnitude more fun playing that than the confused HL2.

I think you're also all forgetting the seminal Command and Conquer 3 on PC!

AFAIK, Smash Bros is going to be using the 'Cube control method to keep things simple, frantic and fun. If you're all up for another ass-whuppin' then bring it on ;)

Warhawk on PS3 looks a great game and has had excellent feedback from all that played it. Infact, Sony had lots of solid gaming on display, but none of it shines with a soul - Nintendo 'pwned' this years E3, and rightly so :)

I'm with Jack here - from what (little) I've seen of Spore it looks neat but shallow, and not my type of game at all.

> But isnt that exactly what 99% of the best selling
> games on the market are?

Yeah, but there's equally a huge amount of rubbish in the market as well :-)

(Yes, I am cynical)

Well done to Will Wright, but it seems he's the current "star pupil" that everyone loves. Not too keen on being blinded by it like so many people are...
