My views on E3 2006 part 2 (Games i can’t wait to play…)
After just posting my views on E3 overall, I have now decided that it’s time for me to post about the games I’m looking forwards to. Quite simply, this is going to be a list…
(Oh, and something that i forgot to mention in my last post – thanks Microsoft! Let’s bring down Sony together!!)
So, the games i can’t wait for:
Wii
Super Mario Galaxy – it’s mario, need i say more!?
Super Smash Bros. Brawl – great fun with the mates – i’ll be interested to see how they use the new controller…
Metroid Prime 3 – still havent played the first two (although have the second), but i will eventually!
WarioWare Smooth Moves – great fun on the GBA, even more fun with a few beers and mates on the cube – bring it ![]()
Super Monkey Ball: Banana Blitz – more fun with Monkey’s in balls
Donkey Kong Bongo Blast – actually for Gamecube, but gives me another reason to have those Bongo’s lying about!!
PC
Pirates of the Caribbean Onile – except for the fact that it’s a subscription based MMO, so i probably wont play it
Dark Messiah of Might and Magic – looks really gory with great AI – hope the fun matches!

That POTC game looks horrible and will be (licensed movie game). Don’t forget the good PC games such as Crysis, Spore, Supreme Commander, etc.

I meant to mention Spore actually – completely slipped my mind…

What of Golden Sun 3?!

Spore just looks like a rehash of Will Wright’s earleir Sim Earth and Sim Life games. Cute concept but ultimately lacking in any real substance – its just a collection of standard RTS/Strategy mechanics.

Jack: But isnt that exactly what 99% of the best selling games on the market are? I actually think it looks quite neat – dont know if you remember a few years back there was a game called evolver (or something similar, the name evades me at present) – that was briefly fun, but this looks to me like what that should have been in my head…
Fish: And what of it? Who needs GS when we have a zelda game on its way?!?!

Yeah, but there’s equally a huge amount of rubbish in the market as well
(Yes, I am cynical)
Well done to Will Wright, but it seems he’s the current “star pupil” that everyone loves. Not too keen on being blinded by it like so many people are…

I’m with Jack here – from what (little) I’ve seen of Spore it looks neat but shallow, and not my type of game at all.

I think you’re also all forgetting the seminal Command and Conquer 3 on PC!
AFAIK, Smash Bros is going to be using the ‘Cube control method to keep things simple, frantic and fun. If you’re all up for another ass-whuppin’ then bring it on
Warhawk on PS3 looks a great game and has had excellent feedback from all that played it. Infact, Sony had lots of solid gaming on display, but none of it shines with a soul – Nintendo ‘pwned’ this years E3, and rightly so

I’ll probably buy that simply due to the good memories of the original C&C/RA games. The latter couple (RA2 and Generals) didn’t do much for me, but I’m stupid enough to think that maybe they’ll have improved it
Admittedly I’m more swung by the the technology, but I’m thinking that CryTek’s Crysis has to be played. IM(H)O ‘Far Cry’ was the best FPS of the last few years. I had an order of magnitude more fun playing that than the confused HL2.

Get C&C the first Decade – great set
In the words of 1up’s coverage of e3 “Crysis – what’s that? Another futuristic alien FPS. Coz we all need one of those…”
Or somethink like that!
I agree with you about HL2 tho..

To me Spore looks like the ultimate sim game. Not only does it have an incredible level of micro-management and incredible coding means that everything should have a really unique feel to it.
When you get further in the game they are saying you can play with all the earlier stuff, so you can always dabble a bit more in the parts you love.
I have yet to actually find out a lot about the game other than the video’s I have seen. The video’s are incredible but do not give much of an idea as to what the game will be like.
I think it could be genre-breaking: giving you a chance to mix genre’s like never before.
Given Maxis’ track record I think you just have to wait until it is released to know whether it will be good or not (certainly the procedural programming is ground breaking, and should produce some wonderful, if slightly unpreditctable, results)

You make a good point – i’m quite looking forward to it, however, i hope there is some kind of ‘end’ that you can reach. The trouble with the Sim games for me is that you can just go forever, and i like to have an end in sight…
May 18th, 2006 at 07:47
Actually the problem with most sim games is that the end is very near the beginning. It is in fact “when you figure enough out to survive”. In sim city that was always the point that you have enough money to build what you want and your taxes didn’t make people run for their lives.
Once you got to that it was a matter of waiting and slowly improving.
I am hoping that Spore will not suffer from this, becuase as soon as you figure out a certain bit (in the many unique ways hopefully) you can progress to the next level…
There was a mention about high level missions to do in the last section of the game (where you have access to everything from before), so hopefully those objectives will be fun to achieve (I am thinking of some of the objectives in Black&White which were good fun to try and do)

You make a good point, but I was referring to the fact that you can go on indefinately if you want to…
I do look forward to spore tho.

But… but… GoldenSun2 The Lost Age left us on a cliffhanger!!
